Fabulous, Sentimental, weekend in KY

We had a great time visiting KY and seeing our old town and our friends. I miss them terribly already.

We left Thursday May 4th and arrived in Kentucky about 7:30pm. We settled into our hotel room. We picked up our friend Uncle T. (one of his many nicknames) and headed for the Circle H Saloon, down on the old KY River. The place is in the middle of nowhere practically, and it's a country bar (not my usual cup of tea...) but has great Karaoke on Thursday nights. The fellow who runs it is hilarious...he should be a comedian (or at least he thinks so!). Was just like old times...except we didn't stay too late. Our friends had to be at work early.

Got to eat lunch with my best gal pal from my old office on Friday at Joe' Bologna's. If you ever go to Lexington, you must eat there. The food is great and the old Jewish Synagogue building it's located in is beautiful. It was great to see my gal-friend...We never spoke about that office or some of the evil people there. (It's a long story, but I'm glad to be gone from that place. I worked there 15 years and was very happy and successful...until the last 6 months which were a living hell...Mr. Hottie's promotion and move came at the right time--it was as if a guardian angel swooped down and saved me...)

Anyway...
We visited the Lexington Cemetery, which is a huge cemetery in town with beautiful gardens, a pond with ducks, fish and turtles, and the resting place of many notable KY people and historical/political figures. We fed the ducks, geese, fish, and turtles, and walked around and enjoyed a beautiful KY spring day. I took a couple pictures of monuments that caught my eye too (in the Roadside America/Places folder on my Flickr page).

We stopped at Third Street Stuff, a funky store owned and run by artist Pat Gerhard (Sorry no website darn it)..and I got a couple more funky purses for my collection *grin* We rummaged through some second hand shops, such as Pop's Resale, and had lunch at the Famous Parkette Drive-In restaurant.

We hung out with our good friends C & R on Friday nite at their house...and then on Saturday Nite we all headed to The Usual Place....Todd's Karaoke bar...and met all The Usual Suspects (our wonderful awesome friends) for some tasty beers and great Karaoke. They had a contest that nite...and C. won $20 - paid for his beer...so it wasn't a total loss LOL.

Our friends are a great diverse group...Between all of us, we are from all over the US and one from Canada...A few of the group are country fans, some of us are rockers, myself and "Uncle T." like the 80's tunes and humor songs, we got a Man Whore (LOL --OK You's guys...He loves it.), two spicy redheads (myself and the lovely TammyJ), And Mr. Handful0Trouble who sings better than anyone I've ever seen on CMT! Everyone's a great singer in this group...(Except me--I am "okay"...I don't aspire to be on American Idol, or win any contests...I just go to have fun!)

I took some other pics of gardens, buildings, and other stuff around Lexington. Man I miss that town. I am not originally from there..and I used to say "I'm being held hostage in KY" lol....way back when, in my former life (and former marriage..etc)...I never thought I'd miss it until I left there. Never realized the charm of this big "small town"....The beautiful spring, the horses and horse farms, the charming historic buildings of downtown, and yes, even New Circle Road....(a "belt line" road that literally circles the city, with exits onto major arteries. Looks like a wagon wheel on a map.) People there complain about New Circle road, but it really does get ya where you wanna go quick.

The gang presented us with a Todd's Karaoke T-shirt, (Complete with the greasy-spoon smell his place is famous for! HAHA!) and they'd all autographed it and personalized it for us. I'm going to make a collage with some pictures, the t-shirt, some karaoke slips and a Todd's Menu in a shadow box frame and hang it in Mr. Hottie's Rec Room...where he has his Music & Karaoke equipment...What a great momento. Our friends are the greatest!!!

All in all, we had a fabulous, wonderful, fun, sentimental weekend visiting Lexington. I always leave a little tiny chunk of my heart there in KY each time I leave...

Check out the rest of the pics on my Flickr page...Gimme some fun comments and feedback....

Oh...and 36 days until Florida....The countdown Continues!!! *Shivering with excitement*
